Everything you need to know about Illumiscreen pre-natal testing in New Zealand

  • How accurate is the Illumiscreen test?

    Illumiscreen has superior detection rate (test sensitivity) compared to maternal serum screen for Down syndrome, Edward syndrome and Patau syndrome. While this screening test has high accuracy, it is not diagnostic. For definitive diagnosis, invasive prenatal testing is necessary. Please refer to test performance information here

  • Where does my blood sample get tested?

    Illumiscreen blood samples are tested in Mount Wellington, Auckland.

  • When should I expect my result?

    5-7 business days from sample arrival at Mount Wellington.

  • Is there an additional charge for detection of sex chromosome aneuploidies?

    No; however result will only be reported if test ticked on request form.

  • Is there an additional charge for determining the gender of my baby?

    No; however result will only be reported if test ticked on request form.

  • How do I receive my results?

    The lab will provide results directly to your medical provider. Your provider will discuss the results with you. You can request a copy of the results from your medical provider.

  • Can I receive a copy of my test results?

    You can request a copy of your results from your medical provider.

  • How early can testing be performed?

    The test is validated for singleton and twin pregnancies with gestational age of at least 10 weeks 0 days, as estimated by last menstrual period, crown rump length, or other appropriate method (equivalent to 8 weeks fetal age as determined by date of conception).

  • How late in my pregnancy can testing be performed?

    Testing can occur any time after 10 weeks gestation.

  • Where can I have the test performed?

  • What if no collection centres are available in my region of the country?

    All regional collection centres can be found by using our map.
